ASH 2022

December 12, 2022

From 09th to 13th December 2022, we attended the 64th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition in New Orleans (USA).

As you know, ASH is the world’s biggest hematology event of the year attended by a global community of more than 30,000 hematology professionals from every subspecialty. It serves both clinicians and scientists around the world who are working to conquer blood diseases.

Travelling to ASH is always an extremely busy period but always very fruitful and interestin. We brought some numbers with us (we’re happy to provide the evidence):

  • Average number of steps per day: 15000
  • Average number of meetings per day: 8-10
  • Average number of hotels visited per day (and therefore Christmas trees heavily decorated): 4
  • Average numbers of working hours per day: 10
  • Average number of hours of sleep per nigh: 5
  • Average number of meal skipped per day: 1

Before leaving, we had the chance to meet virtually with our members and supporters who couldn’t attend the congress in person.

On Friday 09th December, ALAN Chair, Zack Pemberton-Whiteley and ALAN Network Manager Samantha Nier gave an update to ALAN Members and Supporters on the  2022 plans and on planned 2023 activities.  It was very nice to see people in real after this long period of virtual meetings. The meeting was well attended, based on a good exchange and we are very happy with what we have been able to accomplish so far and are looking forward to achieving more in 2022. We are happy to share the presentation (if not already received) – just let us know by email at samantha@acuteleuk.org.

On the Saturday 10th December, we presented our poster “Experiences and Views of Leukemia Patients: A Global Survey” with our colleagues from CML Advocates Network and CLL Advocates. We had the pleasure to meet with Dr Esther Oliva, expert in AML and co-author of the poster.

The congress was also the opportunity to meet with some of our members and sponsors but also our advocacy colleagues (not many advocacy colleagues could actually make it to the picture).

And on top of anything else, we felt in very good hands with Prof. Zack (smiling despite England loosing the FIFA worldcup)  and Prof Jan.

It has been a very interesting conference. In the next weeks, we will organise ASH highlights webinars to report back on the latest advances in acute leukemia. Stay tuned !

Until then, take good care and enjoy the holiday season and #BeLeukemiaAware.
